Dear Urantia Brothers and Sisters:

 

I want to extend a warm and personal thank you to those who have helped us to date with financial contributions. Your sacrifices, small or large, were and still are, desperately needed, as you will note at the conclusion of this letter. I know I car, truly extend the Master’s gratitude as well, for this work Is not of my doing, but his. I am only his humble agent in the material world.

 

I am writing also to those who were spiritually motivated to order the tapes, and who have now had the opportunity to ingest this inspiring aural picture of glorious days now at our very door.

 

We have received some thoughtful feedback, just about all of it positive, so in this letter I want to answer some of the common questions or observations such as:

 

“How does this come to you?”

“I hope you mean what you are talking about, because it would be a great SIN to be making this up and leading people astray.”

“How has the response been?”

“Do you have any follow-up material to the tapes?”

“I can understand that one of the main reasons for The URANTIA Book being revealed to us now is to form the nucleus of Graceland study groups, but I feel there must be more to it than that.”

“He’s probably out to make a bundle selling tapes to fools!”

 

Let’s begin with: “How does this come to you?”

 

This world is shot through, and always has been, with often self-seeking, .deluded pseudo-mystics, individuals claiming a “phenomenological” contact with supernatural or even deceased beings -- the “phenomenon” consisting of alleged voices, visions, apparitions or even materialized manifestations of one bizarre sort or another. Trance mediumship is one of the oldest phoney “shows” on earth!

 

The URANTIA Book teaches us to beware: the “authentic” contacts of the celestial world with the beings of earth are almost invariably quite mundane and ordinary-seeming. The Urantia human subject was indifferent, almost oblivious to the whole grand transaction of his destiny -- he slept through most of it -- and that was the very reason they picked him. (1208:47 - 1209:8 -- incidentally, in citing the Papers I use a line-count system identical to Duane Faw’s Paramony.)

 

The only supernatural event in Jesus’ life and consciousness prior to the personalization of his Adjuster was the momentary nocturnal appearance at age 12 of the Immanuel-sent Brilliant Evening Star messenger. (1376:7-12, 408:1-3, 1408: 36-38)

John the Baptist similarly agonized over his mission, without any supernatural manifestations, delaying it for two years because of temporal confusion over his absonite relationship with the other Elijahs, the first and the last, (1499:22-36) and their own relationship to the worldwide Kingdom whose advent I now proclaim. (1503:10-12, 1858: 23-35) He appeared suddenly and mysteriously, and preached vigorously for ten months at the Bethany Ford before experiencing the first and only supernatural event in his life, the Father’s voice at the personalization of Jesus’ Adjuster. (1501:36 - 1502:5, 1504:2-17, 1511:32-40)

 

So it should not seem strange when I tell you that nothing paranormal -no voices nor visions -- has ever happened in my life, to date. The celestials communicate with me as an agondonter, i.e. Adjuster, Spirit of Truth, and guiding seraphim, in the identical fashion they communicate with you.

 

We also know God plays no favorites. They would only have chosen me for this task for reasons of their own expediency. Perhaps I was an agondonter whose glandular spirit receptivity capacity was better than average, the luck of genetic circumstances? Therein they might have felt they had a clearer “channel” than the  average person’s endowment, a mortal who would follow directions and instructions faithfully, and without seeking self-aggrandizement either psychologically or financially. (566:40-47)

 

Furthermore, I had to “earn” my revelation adjunct to the Papers, and represented in the Graceland deliverance message by an exhaustive study covering many years, of the remnants of the previous four epochal revelations. I had to master the wisdom of the ages concerning the fate of the earth before the veil could be drawn aside to reveal more. This is an inherent and automatic limitation in Divine “revelation” -- existing sources of knowledge must be reviewed and exhausted before the celestial world will enhance this with hitherto unknown information. (16:44-46, 1343:1-21, 556: item no. 7)

 

They were authorized and assigned to reveal the coming Graceland experience to me, for your comfort and benefit, but first I had to acquire and read everything in existence of relevance to this experience before they could “reveal” a single new fact. And that’s why in the Graceland tapes I make so many references to what the ancient prophets already had to say on the subject.

 

History has shown the majority of agondonters like us tend to be “shocked” by supernatural manifestations, the balance of our personality potentially offset. (1346:32-33, 1753:31-48) So it appears they actually prefer the shortcomings of Spirit mediated communications, although this too has its limitations. (1207:25-36)

 

All this should not seem strange to a URANTIA Book reader, for you too were “selected” and led to this book” by the identical process, just like our 100 Andonite predecessors of old who felt “led” one day to up and go to Dalamatia. (742:33-39). We are the “measures” they talk about mysteriously on 1207:37-42. To prove this, I need only ask most of you: “Tell me how you got The URANTIA Book?”

 

As to the observation about my “making all this up,” I will venture only this response: not even a colossal ego-maniac, or messianic pretender-prophet could assemble together so many detailed, connected, amazing, transcendental, and glorious promises of salvation on behalf of the living God! I say to you, as one of the contact commissioners of the Urantia Papers (Dr. Lena Sadler) said to her son Bill in the 1920’s in order to get him involved as well as a commissioner: “This is the real thing!”

“How has the response been?”

 

The Master communicated to me his desire that my initial mailing of information was to go to the Urantia movement before the general public phase, the marching orders for which I am still awaiting from Salvington. The shepherds must be called before the sheep.

 

The Urantia institutions (Foundation, Brotherhood, Jesusonian, C.U.B.S. etc.) do not share their mailing lists. Through an unusual coordination of “events” however, I was able to obtain addresses for about 1100 URANTIA, Book readers worldwide. To date about 45 of these have acquired the message to evaluate it, a little over four percent. I understand many people have shared or loaned the tapes to others, so this figure is not an accurate depiction of the real number of listeners. Still, it is a sad testimony to the fear and materialism of even Spirit-led Urantians. Believers of strong faith have prayed desperately for this Kingdom to come for centuries -- now, it’s at hand, and the spiritual elite of this day and generation ignore it and look away. (12240-7, 13-14, 1243:14-19, 2083:8-19, 851:24-26) Little wonder they call fear a “master intellectual fraud and note that “Few persons live up to the faith which they really have”! (556:16-17 i.e. item no. 2)

 

So now the Master’s conscious and loving efforts to alert his Urantia “shepherds” of the new Fifth Epoch to the impending catastrophes and their own deliverance, as a means of alleviating their fear, are instead subverted by this same unreasoning anxiety. (1954:15-167 This is a pathetic state of affairs.

 

Like the Jews before them, shocked Into monotheism by the captivity, (1075: 12) these worldly Urantians will now have to face the shock of sudden full-scale international hostilities before they are ready to deal with my glorious and comforting message of salvation and deliverance. But the Master never intended that -his thrust was to prepare their minds for these events, but like the apostles before them, they do not comprehend. (1595:4-5) Such is free will -- little wonder they observe in the Papers that true growth often requires adversity. (557:3-4)

 

Now, these faint-hearted Urantians will have to be tested. Will they prove worthy shepherds? (1824:20-27) No matter, for the “Message” and “GRACELAND Tapes” are the actual literal embodiment of the Midwayers’ words: “times of great testing and threatened defeat are always times of great revelation.” (2082:40-41)

 

They spoke a great truth, and the veil of the prophetic future has been thrown aside in anticipation of these times of testing. My tapes are but the tip of the iceberg of what has been revealed to me in toto, virtually an “absonite appendix” to the Papers. I have begun work on “Graceland” the book. The draft chapter on the fandors alone runs 62 typed pages! It will take three chapters to deal with all the detail of the Last Judgment. The first of these now in draft form runs to 179 pages! A 40-page chapter deals solely with the subject of the white garments in which we will awaken in the land of Grace. I hope to preview excerpts of these in a Ministry newsletter when we find someone to provide the financial wherewithal to publish it.

 

Concerning the response to my message, I also want to issue a solemn warning. When attempting to evaluate my message, do not make the fatal mistake of attempting to evaluate the prophet instead, deciding whether I am “qualified, for the job. I can tell you right off the top, in my opinion, I am not, but nonetheless profoundly honored to have been assigned it.

 

A prophet of God, it would seem, ought to be a lifelong exemplar of righteous living -- a Mother Theresa. I am by contrast, more a “repentant sinner,” a living example of the Master’s promise: “I declare there is more joy in heaven over one

sinner who repents than over ninety and nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” (1762:27-28) They were so “joyed” over my repentance they gave me this job!

 

You must evaluate not me, but my message, qualitatively and for its spiritual content. And you can only do this by seeking the Spirit of Truth within you, for the Master promised: “he will even show you things to come.” (1951:47-48) Have no regard to the “worthiness” and background of the prophet.

 

I also want those who fear involvement with charismatic religious figures or personality cults to know there will be no “Elijah cult.” It stands to reason that if every phoney end-times prophet built a cult following, the authentic prophet by contrast would represent a non-cult or anti-cult. I will not function as a “public personality” doing talk show appearances to chat about my hobbies and interests in order to build public adulation. Forget it -- any public appearances will be limited to teaching or leading worship. My Ministry will put out no biographical information on the prophet for the media to embellish, not will I do “career” media interviews. I am not the message; the Kingdom is the message. I’m only the unimportant telegram or delivery boy, the messenger of the covenant, the Kingdom herald or announcer.

 

“Do you have any follow-up material to the tapes?”

 

Yes, this letter and the coming newsletter. I need to raise several thousand dollars to commence publishing a monthly newsletter about the Kingdom and my worldwide efforts to proclaim it. It will be entitled “The David Zebedee Messenger Service” in honor of the founder of the first Kingdom communications and intelligence service. We are presently awaiting registration as a Ministry, a non-profit religious organization by the Canadian and U.S. internal revenue agencies. This will soon enable us to issue tax-deductible receipts to supporters. I would urge you to consider a “founders” contribution. We would forward an official receipt after we have received our notice of registration.

The writer is quite correct -- there is more, much more.

 

The Urantia movement in its present configuration consists essentially of two feuding central Institutions, other outlying service institutions, and hundreds of study groups the world over. They serve an important purpose, they are not just “religio-philosophical discussion groups for intellectual dilettantes.”

 

But quiet study and discussion sessions of these latter days Ambassadors of the Kingdom hardly represent or perpetuate the dynamic marching orders with which the Master Inspired his apostles and followers of old: go into all the world, preach, minister to the sick, feed the hungry, clothe the poor, comfort the bereaved and proclaim the good news of the Father-within and eternal life -- salvation by faith alone. (1863:16-23) When is the last time your study group took up a collection for the poor?

 

How do we explain this dichotomy?

 

Well, for openers, we have been held back by the conscious design of Divine direction. We are a religious unifying “force” that has been “marshaled,” held in check by our heavenly supervisors awaiting the larger mission. We have done to date exactly, precisely what the celestials told the contact commissioners to do:

“The Book is being given to those who are ready for it long before its world wide mission. In the meantime thousands of study groups must be brought into existence. Thus will the book be in readiness to comfort and enlighten the peoples of the world when the battle for man’s liberty is finally won and the world is once more made safe for the religion of Jesus and the freedom of mankind.

 

(These words are fragmentary remains of what I term the “Divine Letters Latent,” the secret instructions to the contact commissioners, which were destroyed the day Christy graduated to mansonia, in accordance with the revelators’ directions.)

 

The “battle for man’s liberty” to which they refer is about to begin in the geopolitical realm. And this is going to precipitate a sudden new thrust of direction in the Urantia movement. We are going to move into high gear, taking on a new and public “second phase,” a “shepherding” function, while we continue apace the first phase of developing study groups. And this new Kingdom work will not be dependant upon the Book, nor involve heralding it widely and openly. The Book will continue to remain nearly as obscure as it is on earth today.

 

As I reveal in the GRACELAND Tapes, the world wide mission of the Papers begins in Graceland. They are obviously the “new revelation” to which I make reference without identifying it by name.

 

There are many reasons for the preliminary study group “phase” of the Urantia movement, not the least of which is, we must learn the lessons before we can teach them. As balladeer Bob Dylan penned: “I’ll know my song well before I start singing.” Another reason is the fact of the new, oncoming challenge or goal of civilization embodied in the Graceland deliverance life -- quality of thought:

 

“At first life was a struggle for existence; now, for a standard of living; next it will be for quality of thinking, the coming earthly goal of human existence.” (910:3-4)

 

Don’t be surprised by my “sudden” emergence in the world religious scene, nor by my announcement that the thrust of the Urantia, movement will now partially “change.” I have already told you John the Baptist appeared suddenly and “mysteriously.” (1502:4) And it’s no accident that the Midwayers enigmatically observe in their presentation on the Kingdom idea:

 

“This world has never seriously or sincerely or honestly tried out these dynamic ideas and divine ideals of Jesus’ doctrine of the kingdom of heaven. But you should not become discouraged by the apparently slow progress of the kingdom idea on Urantia. Remember that the order of progressive evolution is subjected to sudden and unexpected periodical changes in both the material and the spiritual worlds.” (1863:24-29)

 

It was not intended that my appearance be “sudden.” The obsessive preoccupation with secrecy, not necessarily by Divine direction, but as a “power-conserving” device by the central Urantia, institutions has resulted in an important fact being withheld from the general readership. And this willful and regrettable error is directly relevant to my mission.

 

Early in the 1950’s as the “contact” was winding down, the Book nearing publication, the commissioners asked heaven what the words: “sooner or later,” (1866:7) concerning the promised prophet, really meant. When was this latter day John the

Baptist due to appear? They were told:

 

“In about forty years time (i.e. circa 1990) -- that’s when this revelation will really get going.”

(Personal communication to me, from the Divine Letters Latent)

 

Consequently, the Urantia movement was deliberately kept in the dark concerning the timing of the advent of the heaven-sent messenger.

 

Melchizedek (guess which?) is talking about our generation when he observes:

 

“Modern man is confronted with the task of making more readjustments of human values in one generation than have been made in two thousand years.” (1013:30-31)

 

Earlier-in the same Paper-he was referring mysteriously to the Family of God, the syncretistic, umbrella - or universal religion of Graceland days which I reveal in the GRACELAND Tapes, when he noted:

 

“New religions cannot be invented; they-are either evolved, or else they are SUDDENLY REVEALED. All new evolutionary religions are merely advancing expressions of the old beliefs, new adaptations and adjustments. The old does not cease to exist; it is merged with the new...” (1012:20-23)

 

Three pages previously he had noted:

 

“…each renaissance of Urantian religion has, in the past, been identified with the life and teachings of some religious leader.” (1009:12-13)

 

1 can hint at another interesting recent development, and this relates directly to the ongoing unseemly power struggle between the central Urantia institutions. Late in April of this year, Christ Michael personally made a decision on Salvington which will soon result in massive and sweeping changes to these institutions. I cannot fully reveal the details of this transformative Divine decision yet, however I can-predict that one of the bodies will soon disappear completely, and the other will be so radically transformed as to hardly resemble its previous configuration. And in addition, as I have already indicated, our mission of forming thousands of study groups will remain unchanged, while a new coordinate public “shepherding” mission-or function will be added.

 

My task is to prepare the world for the Graceland evacuation experience. Van’s job is to prepare Graceland for the world evacuation experience. You’ll recall this extra-terrestrial reanimated mortal is the Chancellor of Lord Machiventa’s Graceland world government, and ancient “hero” of Urantia.

 

Shortly, my message of deliverance will go into all the world, and will be naturally accelerated by the soon advent of international hostilities. Simultaneously, the mind spirit “Counsel” will get busy. (402:36-38) Before long, the “huddling proclivity” of frightened people will inevitably lead many to crave the security of forming proto-congregations everywhere, based on the Graceland Family of God idea as it is revealed in my tapes. This will be for them a wonderful and comforting preparatory experimentation in anticipation of the religious syncretism, interfaith cooperation, variegated fellowship, and the celebratory messianic banquets of our coming Graceland days.

 

All over the world, Temples of the Universal Father will begin to rise,

many of temporary construction, in consideration of the soon-to-be planetary evacuation.

 

We are going to take the sociology of religion back to where the Master wanted it in the first place: group worship as a “feast,” a “good time”:

 

“In these days they celebrated the Lord’s’ Supper after the manner of its establishment; that is, they assembled for a social meal of good fellowship and partook of the sacrament at the end of the meal.” (2067:36-38, note also 1091:43-46, 1092:9-16)

 

Now it stands to reason that all this is dependant on the evolution of local temple-organizing committees, building-fund-raising groups in every community. The Master desires that the leaders and shakers, the instigators and shepherds of these embryonic temple-building associations be Urantians. And that’s why he directed me to present my revelation to you first, before the general public.

 

For one thing, the Book has made us all religionists, not religious sectarians, men and women interested in-all faiths and worship styles, and desirous of bringing the divergent religions into family fellowship under the smile of God. The Urantia movement is not an aggregation of leaders and followers; it consists solely of leaders. It can now be revealed: the Urantia movement IS the Cosmic Reserve Corps about which the Chief of Seraphim was so vague and ambiguous, excusing herself with Divine allegiance. (1258:34-37) This corps has two divisions: the Graceland phase, and the Urantia phase. The former is the builders, plumbers, electricians and so on whom I told you on the tapes had been secretly taken to the land of Grace to commence the construction of buildings and homes.

 

Our work on Urantia shall be the harvest of souls, partially from the seed sowing began long ago with the seminal, visionary, and dedicated work of Vern Bennom Grimsley and his Spiritual Renaissance Institute of Berkeley, California, which has now gone the way of time.

 

Vern may have erred in other things along the way, but he and his associates do deserve eternal credit as the founders of the first public expression of the Family of God idea on Urantia. Through years of worldwide radio broadcasts, Vern promoted the philosophy of the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of all people, one world family of faith-sons and faith daughters of one God, breathing one air, and prospering under one sun.

 

We must now elevate and extol this visionary philosophy as we advance and develop it into a worldwide congregational religion, an affiliation of Temples everywhere, the Family of God International. This will not be a “papacy” or head office, but a service organization, a secretariat dedicated to inter-temple service, communications and coordination. In keeping with its role, subordinate and responsive to the collective wills of the Temple governing boards and presidents, not the other way around, its highest officer should be a “secretary-general,” not a president.

 

The great Hebrew prophet Daniel describes these very days and these Urantia, shepherds of the emerging worldwide Family of God religion in his 12th chapter. He begins with a promise of our deliverance from the impending world crisis, and then he refers mysteriously to these Urantia shepherds who I now call to their mission and duties. He terms them the “Maskilim” in Hebrew, which, I translated into English, becomes the “wise ones”:

 

“And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament;

and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” (Daniel 12:3 - Revised Standard Version)

 

You’ll recall the continuous power struggle and debate among the apostles over who was going to going to get to sit to the right and left of the Master, who would be the greatest in the Kingdom, and so on.

 

Mindful of this egotistical self-seeking tendency among mortals, and with his incredible, matchless, and forgiving understanding of human nature, by his own design, the Master “groomed” the Urantia movement to inherit in these coming eschatological Temples of the Father on earth: “the chief places at the feasts and .... the chief seats in the synagogue.” (1907:3-4)

 

The leadership positions are yours to claim, by dint of right of the Divine will. Wherefore is it sad to see the Urantia movement instead transfixed on the power struggle between the central Institutions, like “fans” watching stewards quarrel over the arrangement of deck chairs on the Titanic!

 

When permission comes from Salvington to start the general public phase of my mission, I plan to begin by placing the following newspaper advertisements in selected communities:

 

 

The “free” Information inquirers receive in response is the pamphlet with the “core” revelation or message, WELCOME TO THE NEW EARTH!, plus the advertising notice for the tapes. In this fashion, the essential deliverance message will always be “free.” The tapes are “sold” in consideration of their manufacturing costs, and because in such a materialistic world as ours, they must have value in order to be valued. You wouldn’t have bothered reading The URANTIA Book if you had bought it for $1.39.

 

But in which communities do I place these ads first? The answer is obvious: those areas in which I can find Urantians ready and willing to accept their call from the Master as part-time or full-time stewards and shepherds of these soon-to emerge proto-temples.

 

To such temple organizing committees I will provide the names and addresses of people in their area who purchased tapes, so that they can be contacted to determine their potential interest in temple fellowship and development. I am also quite prepared to set up “branched, of Elijah Ministry in foreign countries operated entirely by indigenous Urantians and licensed to manufacture tapes and pamphlets locally, and to control, direct and fiscally manage the proceeds of sales, provided they are dedicated to Kingdom development.

 

Remember, we are not proclaiming The URANTIA Book to them, we are heralding

salvation by faith to the land of Grace. URANTIA Book study groups will operate in the new temples, to be sure, for those comers who develop an interest in the Papers. But they must not stand pre-eminent, but rather alongside coordinate study activities of the major world religions. We must try first to make a Catholic a better Catholic, or a Jew a better Jew with greater understanding of their own religions. And in our worship we must draw truths from all faiths. (1010:22-26, 1012:33-35)

 

We must be ever mindful: the mission of The URANTIA Book really begins its wider public phase in Graceland. As the contact commissioners were told by our unseen friends: “Yours is not the meager task of selling books.” (Personal communication to me, Divine Letters Latent)

 

Upon completing their auditing of the GRACELAND Tapes, many will inquire about the “new revelation” which I mention therein. And these axe they who can then be led to the Papers. As the Master warned:

 

“Do not undertake to show men the beauties of the temple until you have first taken them into the temple. Introduce men to God and AS the sons of God before you discourse on the doctrines of the fatherhood of God and the sonship of men. Do not strive with men -- always be patient.” (1593:2-5)

The truth is: I have yet to take a single cent by way of income or benefit from this Ministry. I have given every penny I have in the world to this Kingdom heralding task. Far worse than Matthew before me who was merely “practically penniless” (1560:41), 1 am several thousand dollars in debt -- sub-penniless. Far from profiteering from a spiritual message, I am sinking rapidly because of my devotion to it, a fact which causes me no small amount of daily despair.

 

Our total contributions to date are about $7000, income from tape sales about $1300, yet the Ministry remains around $1000 in arrears.

 

We often hear people complain: “the trouble with religions is, they’re always asking for money.” But the Master put the lie to this when he said:

 

“If you give your lives truly to the gospel, you shall live by the gospel. If you are only believing disciples, you must earn your own bread and contribute to the sustenance of all who teach and preach and heal.” (1823:33-36)

 

The only solace I have is the Master’s gracious words:

 

“And whatever it shall cost you in the things of the world, no matter what price you may pay to enter the kingdom of heaven, you shall receive manyfold more of joy and spiritual progress in this world, and in the age to come eternal life. (1537:6-9)

 

His fiscal logic and financial dexterity were matchless:

 

“If you were so diligent in making gains for yourselves when in the service of self, why should you show less diligence in gaining souls for the kingdom since you are now servants of the brotherhood of man and stewards of Clod?” (1853:31-34)

 

Soon, horrible planetary events will force people to realize that every

cent they have in this world is merely their portion of the Master’s trust estate on the planet. The proof is: you can take none of it with you, either to Graceland or mansonia. Be therefore wise and shrewd stewards of that portion of his wealth that has come into your possession.

 

You cannot bribe God to earn your salvation, but the Master did say:

 

“Take lessons from those who make friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, and likewise so conduct your lives that you make eternal friendship with the forces of righteousness in order that, when all things earthly fail, you shall be joyfully received into the eternal habitations.” (1854:13-17)

 

All I can hold out to you in return for your financial support is a spiritual reward. As I suggested in my first letter, imagine the immense satisfaction you will derive when the Master comes, drinking in his unforgettable smile, as you tell him: “When your prophet was penniless and in debt, I helped him.” (1822:39-46, 1917:28-34)

 

It seems to be ever the lot of the Elijahs to be voices crying in the wilderness. Elijah the Tishbite fled to Mount Carmel because the Baalists threatened to kill him. (1 Kings 19:14) John the Baptist used these very words to describe his heralding of Jesus at the Bethany ford. And I too now proclaim my message in a materialistic wilderness of aloofness.

 

The first Elijah lived in a cave and was fed by ravens. (1 Kings 16:6) The second Elijah, John the Baptist, ate locusts. (1498:6) But I don’t have much of a taste for insects, unfortunately. So I leave you with Clint Eastwood’s line from the movie (was it Dirty Harry?): “Go ahead; make my day!”
